Despite what you might think, muscle growth actually happens during rest, not in the gym.
During your workout, muscle fibers are broken down & damaged from the stress that was placed on them during your lift.
Immediately beginning post-workout, your body strives to recover those broken-down muscles by fusing your muscle fibers together to form new strands, in turn increasing the thickness and “size” of your magical muscles.
To help aid in the recovery process, it’s important to take a fast-digesting protein & carbohydrate.
